The Balearic Islands of Spain are very famous for their beauty, and a lot of tourists go every summer to enjoy its virgin beaches and coves. However, there is one island that is not so well-known, and it is the smallest of them all, Formentera. This island is not so popular and therefore it doesn’t hold the number of tourists that other islands like Ibiza or Mallorca. It is a great place to enjoy nature, relax and spend some nice time with family.

Formentera is not big and it doesn’t have a big number of hotels or facilities like the other islands, and some of them are more expensive here. Well, this depends on what you would like to experience. Do you want to have a calm a peaceful time or do you like being with people and enjoy the high energy?

What is your favorite experience on the beach?

The season starts around May and it lasts until the end of September. If you go at the start or the end of the season, you can find some offers and you won’t encounter many people on the island. But if you like beaches with a lot of people and have fun, then you need to visit around July – August. In this case, we recommend you to go early to the beaches and reserve your spot with anticipation since you can find a lot of people on the same beach.

The best coves in Formentera

Cala Saona

With just 150 meters, this is the most beautiful cove on the whole island. Its shades of blue will leave you speechless, and you will realize soon enough that this cove has the clearest waters on the island. In the summer you will find that this is a popular place and it can get crowded real quick. Therefore, we recommend you to go early in the morning and reserve your spot. We assure you it is completely worth it. Another great tip is to stay at the hotel & spa that is there and enjoy the incredible Mediterranean food of the chiringuitos that are around. Lastly, we also recommend you to stay here and enjoy the sunset, an experience that will look exactly like a postal.

Caló des Mort

This is the cove that makes people fall in love with its beauty. It has just 80 meters, so if you go around the strongest months of the season, you will find a lot of people here. We recommend to get there really early and the morning and don’t forget your snorkel and equipment to dive! Around the cove, there are different rocky formations that are full of marine life, and you can take a tour and enjoy the beauty of the creatures. Another good tip is to take food and drinks since there are no restaurants or facilities available.

Cala en Baster

If you like doing snorkel and you want to experience a place that is just pure calmness, then you need to visit Cala en Baster. The seabed of this place is rocky and it is surrounded by rocks too. It is perfect to practice snorkel and float peacefully. You won’t find many people here so it is great to enjoy some relaxing time with family or friends.

Ses Illetes Beach

Our first beach is definitely the most popular and pretty. It has 500 meters and its waters are pretty shallow, something that a lot of parents look for their kids. The place gets crowded in the summer because it is the place where ferries anchor and most people stay on this beach, but visiting is a must and you will have a great time. There are different facilities, like restaurants and chiringuitos around, so you can enjoy Mediterranean food.

Es Pujols Beach

This is a favorite among tourists because it is a wide beach with soft white sand, crystal clear turquoise water and it also has all the facilities and services around. You can get anything you need from here without moving to another area, so if you like going to the beach and just relax and not move in the entire day, this is the perfect place!

Ses Platgetes

If you want to practice snorkel and diving, this is the beach for you. You will find here different species of fish, octopuses, and other animals. Ses Platgetes is surrounded by rocks, dunes, and pines, a sign of the Virgin Islands. It has shallow and clear waters that are great to explore the marine life. Something we recommend here is to wear special footwear to not get hurt with the rocks while swimming.

Llevant Beach

If you are looking for a place that is not crowded, where you can have some quiet and peaceful time to relax or even read, you need to visit de Llevant. This beach is on the side of Ses Illetes, and even though is one of the biggest beaches on the island, is one of the least known. Therefore, you can have a nice and relaxing time here.
